Job Responsibilities

The Senior System Engineer is responsible for leading the design, reliability, scalability, performance, and operational excellence of critical systems and infrastructure.

This role requires deep technical expertise across cloud, Kubernetes, networking, virtualization, and automation technologies, while providing technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams.

As a Senior System Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

• Lead the resolution of critical production incidents across applications, Kubernetes, cloud, networking, and virtualization layers.
• Serve as a technical escalation point for complex infrastructure and platform issues.
• Design, implement, and maintain highly available, scalable, and fault-tolerant systems.
• Define and improve monitoring, alerting, observability, and incident management processes.
• Drive automation initiatives using Python, Go, Bash, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Lead capacity planning, performance optimization, and infrastructure scaling strategies.
• Collaborate with software engineering teams to architect resilient and performant services.
• Establish and promote Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, including SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and operational excellence.
• Conduct root cause analyses and lead post-incident reviews to prevent recurrence.
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and infrastructure improvements.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and contribute to technical knowledge sharing across the organization.
• Participate in and help improve on-call processes and operational readiness.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of production experience managing Linux-based systems and infrastructure.
• Proven experience supporting large-scale web platforms, SaaS applications, or distributed systems in production.
• Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, Go, Java, C/C++, or Ruby.
• Extensive hands-on experience operating Kubernetes in production environments.
• Strong expertise in cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, with experience in multi-cloud environments considered a plus.
• Advanced knowledge of networking concepts, traffic flows, load balancing, and network troubleshooting.
• Experience with KVM-based virtualization technologies and Linux hypervisors.
• Strong working knowledge of OpenStack private cloud environments and associated services.
• Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems architecture, scalability, and failure modes.
• Experience designing and maintaining highly available and fault-tolerant infrastructure.

Monitoring, Automation & Tooling:

• Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, Datadog, or equivalent observability platforms.
• CI/CD tools, including Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, and ArgoCD.
• Configuration management and automation using Ansible, Python, Bash, or Go.
• Git-based development and release workflows.
• Incident response, monitoring strategy, and operational excellence practices.

Networking, Virtualization & Cloud:

• Deep expertise in TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, TLS, proxies, firewalls, and load balancing.
• Proven experience in troubleshooting complex networking and performance issues.
• Experience tuning and optimizing virtualized environments and hypervisors.
• Strong familiarity with OpenStack components, including Nova, Neutron, and Cinder.
• Knowledge of NUMA, oversubscription strategies, resource allocation, and infrastructure capacity planning.
• Experience designing cloud-native and hybrid-cloud architectures.

Leadership & Soft Skills:

• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making abilities.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to lead technical initiatives and drive cross-functional collaboration.
• Proven mentoring and coaching experience.
• Strong ownership mindset with a focus on automation, reliability, and continuous improvement.
• Comfortable working with globally distributed teams and supporting mission-critical systems.

Academic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
• Master’s degree preferred but not mandatory
